A "Blessings" jar. What is it? A woman who loves the Lord a great deal [and who is also a fellow bird-lover] shared this super neat idea a couple of days ago.
It requires very little time to do a very simple act: write down at least one blessing at the end of each day....for the entire year.
That may sound quite easy, particularly if your life is coasting along pretty well. It may also sound very difficult to those who are experiencing really tough times right now.
I believe God sprinkles at least one special blessing [or gift] to each of us daily. We may or may not recognize it/them depending on what we are encountering in our lives at the time. Yet, His blessings are never conditional or withheld.
God created everything....absolutely everything, including us. He finds great joy in sprinkling something beautiful into our days....whether the day is awesome, challenging, heartbreaking or wonderfully over the top. He also cherishes our recognition of those gifts when we take the time to thank Him from genuinely grateful hearts.
But here's the neat thing I find in commiting to a Blessings Jar: No matter what your day was like, you will discover there was something beautiful tucked into it. His blessing [gift] may be totally obvious right off the top, or you may have to [mentally] search back through the day to try to find it. But it WILL be there!!
One by one those written blessings in your jar will begin to pile up. As the days turn into weeks, then months those "pieces of paper" will become amazing visual reminders of God's faithfulness to you and His love for you.....in abundance.
There are many times when we are totally aware of God's blessings in our lives, but then a turn in the track takes place and they can be forgotten--we may suddenly wonder where God is or if He even cares. It happens to all of us. But He does care, beyond what we can humanly comprehend and I truly believe you will be in awe of the wonders He blesses your life with when you find the courage to search them out! I have personally experienced His love and faithfulness in even the darkest of days!! They let me know, beyond any doubt, that I am never alone.
So, I encourage each one of you to give this Blessings Jar idea a try. Don't give up if you miss a day or two, or a week....just begin adding to it again. But really, really make an effort to look back through your day each evening---then pop that note of gratitude into the jar and thank God from your heart for His unfailing Love and Faithfulness.
"Blessings" as you begin your 2017 journey!!
[Thank you Donna B. for sharing this wonderful idea!]
May we all, like St. Nicholas, remember why Christmas is......Christmas.
May we remember to bow before our Lord Jesus in quietness prior to and throughout the festivities of this busy season.
For in Him we experience forgiveness, unconditional love and the most profound gifts of all gifts: Eternal Life.
In Him we discover our purpose.
In Him we find all that we need to reach out to others---
We become His hands, His feet & His heart.
And only through Him are we completely whole.

Blessings to each and every one during this Christmas season.
God's Touch and Tapestries surround us---when you wonder, when you doubt, when you question---step outside and take a look around.
Almighty God is the Creator of all----and when we grasp that, really GET it, all we will be able to do is stand in absolute awe of Who He is and what He can do.
"I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR ME?" Jeremiah 32: 27 NIV
Blessings on your week~
Challenging situations will always arise in our lives. How we handle them determines the outcome.
Several years ago I read this phrase: When you don't know what to do.....WAIT! God never panics and He is never under pressure.* This phrase has become etched in my heart. Whenever a situation arises in which I feel burdened, uncertain or wishing I knew the right way to address something this phrase immediately comes to mind and I feel peace. I then take a few moments to chat with the Lord, asking Him to help me patiently wait for HIS Guidance. To trust Him to do what I cannot.
Waiting on God is not a passive decision---it's an empowering decision. He wants us to be proactive participants along our life's journey, but there will always be situations beyond our control......when we just don't know what to do.
When you ask God to guide you, to show you what to do, you are not "giving up" but rather trusting Him for His perfect timing and to help you deal with it in the right way. You are acknowledging that He is God, that He never panics and that He is never under pressure. He sees what we cannot see. He is the only One who knows the outcome.
So begin the practice of waiting on God when things seem all muddled up. Talk with Him about it, share your heart with Him.....ask Him to help you through it. Then leave it with Him....don't put it back on your shoulders.
I put this phrase on a blackboard I see every day but I want to be clear: it's not a magic chant and it's not a positive thinking phrase to memorize. It simply reminds me of God's ability to guide me to do things the "right way" and many times, doing it the "right way" means waiting patiently for Him to let me know what to do, or let Him work it through in a way I cannot. Coupled with Scripture [and there are lots where He tells us to wait on Him--patiently] uncertainty will begin to dissipate and peace will wash over your soul.
It's an awesome way to live the life God has blessed you with!
"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Psalm 27:14 NIV
"I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weened child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me." Psalm 121:1b,2 NIV
"I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope." Psalm 130:5 NIV
"He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD." Psalm112:7 NIV
[*Being an author myself, I have tried to find the author of the phrase mentioned but have had no success--as far as I am aware, author is unknown]
What do you think when you see this photo? Is life so crazy busy you wish you could climb into the photo and just sit awhile? If you were able to do that, what would happen?
For most of us, it would take awhile to settle down---let our minds relax to the point of actually noticing WHAT we are looking at. We would begin to experience an intense awareness of everything around us.
The rhythm of our heart would slow to the rhythm of the sea. Our eyes would reflect the colours of the rainbow. Our ears would experience the symphony of nature around us in surround sound. The weight of our problems and challenges would be eased. Our muddled thoughts would become clearer.
This is how it is with "alone time" with God. Slipping away to some place quiet, wherever that may be, will do the same thing for our soul as if we had slipped into the special place within this image.
God does powerful things when we chat with Him. He eases our burdens, He lightens our load. He speaks gently yet clearly and His voice is the only thing we hear. Anxious hearts melt away, and peace beyond human understanding washes over us. Darkness dissipates and clarity brings hope and optimism.
Time alone with God enables His grace to flood over us when darkness threatens to consume us. But we must wait for Him....quietly....in expectation of what He can and will do.
And it is then, at that moment, that He will speak to our hearts.
"In repentance and rest is your salvation, in QUIETNESS and TRUST is your STRENGTH." Isaiah 30:15a NIV
May this week bring "Showers of Blessings" and provide insight into God's amazing grace. ~~ Kathie
