Do you ever feel like this historic concrete ship? Old? Rusty? Damaged? Unusable?
In all honesty, most of us probably do at some time in our lives. Aging bodies can taunt us as joints feel and sound like rusty hinges, muscles don't work the way they used to and at times we feel unusable--life no longer holds purpose or meaning.
This can happen when acquiring a new disability as well. Questions pop up daily: Where do I fit in? I don't like these changes! Limitations are shrinking my world. I don't feel useful anymore.
It's natural to experience these feelings, but I encourage you not to "stay there" in your mind. That choice would make you blind to the work God wants to do in you--right where you are.
When first looking at the ship in the photo, we visually see a worn out, rusty, inoperable wreck. However, if we investigate further, we surprisingly discover that this ship is still extremely valuable, despite the toll the sea has taken on it. Silently, this massive, concrete vessel is a powerful breakwater of protection from stormy seas. Above water, it provides nesting cavities for birds and below water it becomes a valuable food source for marine animals as sea-life attaches to it. It is also a favourite place for fishermen to catch salmon.
The ship has been, and continues to be a significant participant on the sea. It's purpose has changed immensely, however the changes have not made it unusable. Yes, it is old, rusty and damaged but it continues to play a crucial role despite the thrashing of the sea.
God has a specific purpose for each one of us. Our job is to be vigilant, watching for His guidance and the opportunities He leads us to. Most often, it's the lives that have been challenged the most, or lived the longest which speak the loudest about never, ever giving up.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself RESTORE you and make you STRONG, FIRM and STEADFAST. To Him be the power for ever and ever." (1 Peter 5: 10-11 NIV)
Up From The Grave He Arose!!!! Anticipation for this miraculous day is the reason I designed this photo--many didn't believe Christ was the son of God nor that God was listening when they hurled insults, tortured and nailed Christ to the cross. But God was doing His mightiest work--for ALL of mankind. Christ's resurrection defied the finality of death--the cross is empty--the tomb is empty....He is fully alive today. So remember, when life seems overwhelming, God is not indifferent to your prayers or just being silent--in fact, He is doing His mightiest work in your life---TRUST HIM for He hears every word. Our Risen Lord is living proof of God's ultimate gift---unconditional love and the promise of eternal life. Claiming this truth, I know beyond any shadow of a doubt that my Mom is celebrating WITH Jesus on this, her first Easter in Heaven. And, because Christ conquered death, I know I will see her again one day---and will share eternity with her and so many others whom I love, including Jesus---all because of HIS death and miraculous resurrection. Blessings on your Easter Sunday.
Christ told his disciples:
"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father EXCEPT through me. (John 14:6 NIV)
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:1-3b NIV)
