Challenging situations will always arise in our lives. How we handle them determines the outcome.
Several years ago I read this phrase: When you don't know what to do.....WAIT! God never panics and He is never under pressure.* This phrase has become etched in my heart. Whenever a situation arises in which I feel burdened, uncertain or wishing I knew the right way to address something this phrase immediately comes to mind and I feel peace. I then take a few moments to chat with the Lord, asking Him to help me patiently wait for HIS Guidance. To trust Him to do what I cannot.
Waiting on God is not a passive decision---it's an empowering decision. He wants us to be proactive participants along our life's journey, but there will always be situations beyond our control......when we just don't know what to do.
When you ask God to guide you, to show you what to do, you are not "giving up" but rather trusting Him for His perfect timing and to help you deal with it in the right way. You are acknowledging that He is God, that He never panics and that He is never under pressure. He sees what we cannot see. He is the only One who knows the outcome.
So begin the practice of waiting on God when things seem all muddled up. Talk with Him about it, share your heart with Him.....ask Him to help you through it. Then leave it with Him....don't put it back on your shoulders.
I put this phrase on a blackboard I see every day but I want to be clear: it's not a magic chant and it's not a positive thinking phrase to memorize. It simply reminds me of God's ability to guide me to do things the "right way" and many times, doing it the "right way" means waiting patiently for Him to let me know what to do, or let Him work it through in a way I cannot. Coupled with Scripture [and there are lots where He tells us to wait on Him--patiently] uncertainty will begin to dissipate and peace will wash over your soul.
It's an awesome way to live the life God has blessed you with!
"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Psalm 27:14 NIV
"I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weened child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me." Psalm 121:1b,2 NIV
"I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope." Psalm 130:5 NIV
"He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD." Psalm112:7 NIV
[*Being an author myself, I have tried to find the author of the phrase mentioned but have had no success--as far as I am aware, author is unknown]
